In Their Own Words...

Jay has been the owner of Manipura Yoga College for almost 10 years and has brought in hundreds of students to learn about breath, movement, and meditation. She herself keeps evolving and growing into new heights by learning from her mentors and keeping her practice authentic. She only teaches what she's experienced. She is all about the inner guru and never takes credit for the facilitation she conducts. She gives all walks of life space to experience themselves. She is all about accessibility and is generous with her time and knowledge, hoping she always provides the most value to those who are on their own spiritual path so they in turn can facilitate growth in others.

Jay is a master facilitator. I've witnessed hundreds of folks experience her work and I'm always in AWE at how she teaches and allows each individual space for their own inward journey. She creates a safe space to explore all the depths of oneself as she herself is a living embodiment of her work. I took Jay's 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in 2016 and it was one of the most spiritually enriched experiences I ever had, as it was also grounded in knowledge and science. She gives you a clear and whole picture of how YOGA benefits mind, body and soul and how it has nothing to do with the kind of yoga pants you wear. It is the experience of self, in all it's forms and feelings. And everything we experience has a place. She empowers us with tools to honour all of our-selves through breath, movement, journalling and feeling. Healing happens when you experience Jay.

I have a PhD in developmental psychology and am a professor in Psychology at UBC. My expertise is in areas related to emotions and emotion regulation (including embodied-type stuff like psychophysiology) and how they relate to mental health. My research areas include things like shame, family dynamics, communication…There are many times where I can see direct links to the research I do in my lab or keep on top of as part of my work and the things I observe about my evolution through the practices you offer. Your practices connect with me on so, so many different levels.

Last Spring, Jay’s 5-week course on Shame was deep, profound learning for me. It felt like a direct route onto the freeway of deep inner listening that leads to the embodied practice of distress tolerance—being able to sit with difficult feelings and to learn from them. These practices shine a light on the parts of me that need more attention and support. During and after this Shame course, I remember thinking, “I WANT MORE OF THIS!!!!”. So, you can imagine my excitement when Jay announced her pivot to total self care work. I am so excited to continue learning from Jay as her work evolves and am so very grateful that she continues to make these practices accessible to those of us who cannot join in person.

I knew Kundalini yoga and Jay were special the first time I did a workshop with Jay. It was a transformative experience and her follow up meditation created real change in my life. I started taking her classes a couple months later and couldn’t believe how powerful they were. I decided to make the leap and do her teacher training and find out all the secrets of how this magical yoga works! I know I still have more to learn but the awakening in myself and the confidence she instilled in me was powerful! Jay is an amazing teacher, offering accessible information in a multitude of engaging ways; written, on You Tube, teaching to others, reading about it. So that we became so imbued with the information and technology that it became apart of us. And at the same time providing us with the experience of being in it, being the student, the participant. There was never a dull moment and yet we were refreshed continuously. I can honestly say that I would not be where I am without this training. I used to want to do things and never get around to it. Now I’m teaching kundalini yoga and just opened a studio at my home. Woohoo! 🙌💝🧘
Thanks!

The Emotions course is a swan dive into the soul. It provides participants with a record player, upon which one places the album of their life. Your present self can lift the needle and touch on various songs. The ones you danced to, the ones you laughed to, the ones you cried to, and the ones you were not expecting. Although you can remember the feelings you had at the time the grooves were etched into the vinyl, the needle of the present holds you in the moment, and it is then that you are in two places at once, giving yourself what you always needed.

I joined Jay's online Kundalini classes about 10 months ago.  So many times since I have wondered out loud how I had managed to muddle through life without this practice.  Every week I am surprised by how useful this practice is; how it helps me to put a manageable perspective on life's problems; how it calms me down.  Whether it's a big block, an irksome annoyance, or a slide back into negative thought cycles, I now consciously schedule a Kundalini session for myself.  And as for Jay herself;  loving, joyful, dedicated, and immensely knowledgeable...I trust her training, well...with my life.

I've long been curious about techniques for reconciling emotional trauma, so when Jay began learning the Senses of the Soul approach pioneered by Guru Meher I jumped on board for the 10-week module. That experience turned out to be incredibly impactful with several major and many small personal breakthroughs. I remember walking into my house after one particularly intense class and my wife said: "You're different!". I've long understood that Kundalini Yoga has the capacity to alter awareness to allow for emotional healing, but by taking an explicit emotional focus in her teaching Jay has elevated this potential to a whole new level. Her many years of effort to make Kundalini safe and accessible to all who have the courage to show up has prepared her beautifully to share this new focus in ways that invite as much as challenge. This is such an important factor when emotional healing is the goal. I highly recommend Jay's unique emotion focused yoga for men and women seeking to create an authentic and sustainable sense of internal peace.

After completing my training with Jay at Manipura Yoga College I am able to access a piece of myself that I wasn’t aware of how to access previously. I saw glimmers of this part of myself, I knew it was in there somewhere, but actually getting to it was something that was lost on me before. Feeling lost was a notion I was very familiar with. That was part of the reason I decided to do Yoga Teacher Training in the first place, I wanted to be found. I knew that I could never help anyone if I first couldn’t figure out how to help myself.

My training was life altering. So much so It’s hard to find the right words really. I had a lot of thoughts about what the course would be like and honestly it was so much MORE than what I could have ever imagined. It opened my eyes to a huge community of people with similar motives in life - the ones who care deeply about caring for ourselves, others, and the planet.

Jay is a pioneer with accessibility in her teaching. She goes above and beyond. Her teaching is clear, concise, motivating, and very inspiring. It changed my life and will continue to change my life. I was able to utilize a payment plan, and I didn’t feel out of place for one second in my class. It would not have been the same (or even possible) under any other circumstances. I am beyond grateful I followed my heart and said yes, and I’m so thankful to have met Jay, she is a beautifully gifted mentor. If you’re one of the ones feeling the call to take this training and you’re on the fence, I promise you it’s worth it, YOU ARE WORTH IT! If you’re looking for a sign, let this be it. You will thank yourself for years to come.

"Growing up I was interested in all things of spirit. Ceremonies, meditations, prayers. Yoga was something I saw more as a "stretching and toning" practice and not a spiritual practice. Once I met Jay I knew I found an instructor that combined all things yogic. Traditional Yoga poses, chanting, dancing, meditating. I was hooked!!! She has this wonderful ability to light up a room and make even an 11 minute Sutra fun. Her energy is infectious and she has a huge knowledge base of spirituality and Kundalini. Highly recommend taking the YTT course whether you want to teach or grow your own practice. Sat Nam!"
